Today we are building on some of the learning 10M have been doing in programming electronics. This time we will be learning how to write some simple programs using the if then else statement. Some students were new to working in Scratch so this was an opportunity to try writing a program in a programming environment that was still block based like Microbit but had a different interface. You can see our learning site here.

Electronics - programming microbits
Kia ora koutou!
We have been working with microbits using the microsoft makecode editor
A nice feature is that you can share your code on your blog and it will run the simulator.
Here is one of our projects, an electronic dice (click the SHAKE button):

English - Getting Started
9M has transformed and is now 10M.
This week we have been getting to know each other. The class has been creating slides which represent who they are. The aim has been to read through the instructions and create slides which are informative, bright and engaging. They have posted an extract of their slides on their blogs and commented on the reasons behind their choices.
We have played Scattergories as a 'Do Now' activity and have all learnt how creative Luke is...banana! As a class we have been pushing ourselves to think creatively and think of original answers. We have challenged each other, questioned each other and laughed at both ourselves and each other!
We have also learnt that as a class 10M is competitive, in all areas of school and especially sports!

Globalisation
In Social Studies 9M have been learning about globalisation and specifically at looking at New Zealand exports. We used google maps to show which countries New Zealand exports to and students added their maps with their research to their blogs.
Christian did some excellent research and found out that in 2018 NZ exports amounted to $39.8 billion USD. You can see how Christian compiled his research in his map by clicking here and visiting his blog.

Virtual Whare - 9M's House of Learning
Currently 9M are creating and doing some very cool work in Social Studies. They have been on a three day program called Raranga Matihiko - Weaving Digital Futures with Monika Kern and Kerry Leaf from the Waitangi Treaty Grounds Education Centre. Having spent two full days in Waitangi earlier this Term our students got to work and get familiar with applications such as Paint 3D, Tinkercad, SculptGL, Virtual Reality to name a few. Last Wednesday 4th September Monika, Kerry and Tara Fagan from Te Papa Museum in Wellington arrived at school with all of their specialist digital equipment and helped our class put together a Virtual Whare. Pretty amazing stuff happened that day, and the students really enjoyed themselves. Huge acknowlegments to Monika, Kerry, Tara, the Waitangi Education Centre, Te Papa National Museum and the MoE for creating this program so that our students could learn in a 3D world. Here is a taste of what they created

Waitangi Trip for SST
Yesterday our 9M class went to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds and the Education Centre. We were enrolled in a two day hands on learning program called Raranga Matihiko - Weaving Digital Futures being run by the Education Centre, Te Papa Museum and MoE.
Joining us were parents Barbara Collier, Stephine Milner, Polly Hall and Ashley Peacock. The students are learning about Kiwi Culture this Term so they all got to visit the museum, the upper Treaty grounds, Flag pole and big house. Students are gathering ideas and thoughts about an exciting visual story they will be creating using vertual 3D computer programs and tools that will tell their own story from a cultural view point. We are due to go back again for a second full day to start creating their stories and I'm excitied to see what they are going to produce. Today I asked the students to create a Blog post about our trip yesterday, check out their Blogs and see what they had to say.
