Virtual Whare - 9M's House of Learning

Currently 9M are creating and doing some very cool work in Social Studies. They have been on a three day program called Raranga Matihiko - Weaving Digital Futures with Monika Kern and Kerry Leaf from the Waitangi Treaty Grounds Education Centre. Having spent two full days in Waitangi earlier this Term our students got to work and get familiar with applications such as Paint 3D, Tinkercad, SculptGL, Virtual Reality to name a few. Last Wednesday 4th September Monika, Kerry and Tara Fagan from Te Papa Museum in Wellington arrived at school with all of their specialist digital equipment and helped our class put together a Virtual Whare. Pretty amazing stuff happened that day, and the students really enjoyed themselves. Huge acknowlegments to Monika, Kerry, Tara, the Waitangi Education Centre, Te Papa National Museum and the MoE for creating this program so that our students could learn in a 3D world. Here is a taste of what they created

  1. Kia Ora 9M, Thank you for having me as part of your class for the day. It was a real privilege to meet with you and to see the work you are doing. What an amazing class you are - so full of ideas and creativity. I love the work you have created with Whaea Monika and Kerry's support. Bringing your pepeha together in the virtual whare with Paris welcoming us is quite something. I love the photos that you have around the outside of the whare as well. I will be sharing this with other students and some of the people who fund this project so they can see what you are doing as well. Best for the holidays. Ngā mihi, Tara
